We all should pay a little more attention to the things that we consume and find out more about the things we are exposing our bodies to…though enjoyable, certain foods and beverages can really be causing a lot of damage to our insides.

This isn’t new information but sodas are loaded with sugar and empty calories that can be very detrimental to your health. In addition to being linked with weight gain, inflammation and insulin resistance, this caffeinated beverage can lead to gastro-esophageal reflux disease which causes the stomach acid to leak back into the esophagus resulting in pain and burning.

That salty and crunchy satisfying snack are calorie dense and high in fat content both of which can contribute to weight gain PLUS they’re high in trans fat and sodium which can result in higher blood pressure. Do I have to mention the artificial preservatives and dyes that are fried at high temperature. This process creates what is called acrylamide which is a known carcinogen that is found in cigarettes.

Street meat might be a baseball fan favourite or after the club go-to meal but hot dogs, sausages, bacon, and most lunch meats can be damaging to your health. These meats contain chemicals and excessive amounts of salt that are used in the manufacturing process. The chemicals and preservatives including sodium nitrates in processed meats are used to improve their appearance on store shelves but these same chemicals are commonly known carcinogens.

Tomatoes are healthy but once they’re canned, they become hazardous. The can lining is usually made with a chemical substance called BPA. The food and drug administration aka the FDA has been concerned by BPA because it has been shown to alter brain chemistry in research done on rats. The reason why canned tomatoes are so dangerous in particular is because tomatoes are very acidic – the BPA content from canned tomatoes can be so high that some brands even warn parents not to feed totheir children.
